Trump’s deal with Putin will terrify the West

If the Russian president can get his US counterpart dancing to his tune, eight decades of trans-Atlantic solidarity could be ruptured.

London | There’s a Russian proverb, recalled this week by Roderic Lyne, a former British ambassador to Moscow, that goes: “If you dance with a bear, it’s not you who decides when the dance ends – it’s the bear.”

US President Donald Trump is tangoing with Russian President Vladimir Putin. And, on the face of it, the Moscow man is leading the dance, and calling the tune.
