Is Kwasi Kwarteng wrong, or just the right man at the wrong time?
Britain’s treasurer is thick-skinned, supremely sure of himself, and ready to be unpopular in pursuit of his cause. But the same may not be true of his party.
London | British Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng was on a regional visit to the north of England on Thursday when a journalist asked him if he had a message for financial markets.
This was his chance. He hadn’t been heard from in public since the pound cratered to a record low, the gilt markets had fallen into chaos, the Bank of England had rushed in with emergency measures, and the International Monetary Fund had given him stick.
