Back in the 2000s, on the eve of a London meeting of the public service union Unison, a senior member named Liz Snape got a call: “There’s a young woman coming your way from Stockport. She’s called Angie, she’s a north-west regional activist and has a very unique talent for somebody so young.
“She’s had a terrible start in life. Keep an eye out for her. She’s sharp and bright and to the point. I think she’s going to go far.”
