Ahead of competing in her third Olympics, Ellie Carpenter says she wants more female athletes to get money-smart to take advantage of the rising pay on offer.

An opportunity to play soccer at one of the best football clubs in France gave Matildas star Ellie Carpenter something female athletes once considered an impossible dream: enough money to support herself.

Olympique Lyonnais, where the Matildas defender has played since 2020, is widely regarded as one of the best football clubs for women in the world – it has eight Champions League trophies and has won the domestic competition 17 times. Carpenter has won the domestic competition three times and two Champions Leagues.
