George Orwell once said that so much left-wing thought resembles playing with fire by people who don’t realise that fire is hot.
In the past two weeks, in defiance of the pandemic health restrictions, the contemporary left has flooded into the streets in the US, Europe and Australia to protest against racism. But in keeping with contemporary identity politics, the protests have politicised race by vandalising and demanding the toppling of various statues of dead white men from history, whose thoughts and actions understandably fail modern tests of political correctness.
