Can the AUKUS deal save Britain’s PM?
To Tory malcontents, Sunak is an illegitimate ruler who knifed Johnson and toppled Truss. They see a tax-raising, Brexit-undermining social liberal.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is supposed to be a man who thrives on detail. But it’s the little things that always seem to catch him out. When he was chancellor, his attempt to promote a fuel-duty cut by filling his car with petrol backfired because it wasn’t his car, and he didn’t seem to know how to use a contactless card machine.
More recently, he was filming a social-media clip in a car, and ended up being cautioned by police because he wasn’t wearing his seatbelt. And this week, he was again given a police talking-to after a TikTok video showed him in Hyde Park walking his dog without a leash.
