Brave Brits outmanoeuvred Brussels on Brexit

The EU started with all the cards, but didn't bank on British willingness to walk away – or to see the long-term rewards of Brexit.

We have our stereotypical visions of the British: they’re either posh lords and ladies living in grand country houses with all the foppish elegance of Downton Abbey. Or they’re an exploited, poverty-stricken proletariat of barely literate lager louts.

In reality, the average Brit is middle class, polite, invariably understated and has a welcome love of Australia.
