London | British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has called an election for July 4, months earlier than expected, despite his Conservative Party facing a potential wipeout after 14 years in office.
Mr Sunak, who has been in Downing Street for fewer than two years, had been expected to wait until October or November, hoping for a tailwind from a recovering economy, falling interest rates and cooling inflation.
