Postcard from Tohoku: lessons to learn 10 years after tsunami
In my quest to find a way to help the communities of the tsunami-ravished north-east of Japan, I discover a lot about community and perseverance.
Melanie BrockContributorA decade has passed since that fateful day in March 2011. People say they remember where they were when they saw the live footage of the tsunami crossing the coastline north-east of Tokyo, in an area called Tohoku.
Nearly 20,000 people perished. For a while, the world watched in horror at the scenes of devastation, worried about the fallout from Fukushima, and marvelled at the stoicism and strength of the people of Tohoku.
