Japan seeks to end ‘missing women’ in boardrooms
Postcard from Tokyo. Japan is a laggard and the lowest-ranking G7 country in terms of gender equality, but Prime Minister Fumio Kishida wants to turn that around.
Tokyo | Visitors to Japan ask me about many things – the best restaurant to book (impossible to pick), should they still visit Kyoto (yes, of course but….) and why it’s hard to get cash out (go to 7-Eleven).
Another question, one I have always found difficult to answer, is related to the status of women in Japan. Often, business visitors will only encounter women at the reception of corporate Japan’s head offices, bowing as they enter and depart, and not in actual meetings.
