Facebook, Australia should help hold Duterte to account: Ressa
A high-profile critic of the Duterte government in the Philippines, who is facing up to 63 years in jail on what critics say are questionable charges, has called on Facebook to do more to stop the targeting of activists and journalists online.
Maria Ressa, co-founder and chief executive of the news site Rappler that has exposed the brutality of the Philippine government's so-called war on drugs, also called on Australia and other countries to more forcefully hold President Rodrigo Duterte to account. Separately, she said Australians should be alarmed by the recent police raids on local journalists and the threat these pose to press freedom.
