Spotlight on press freedom after police raids
The Morrison government is facing growing calls for better protection of press freedom, with ABC chair Ita Buttrose warning whistle-blowers and journalists revealing information in the public interest should not be treated as criminals.
Speaking out against unjustified secrecy on national security grounds, she expressed grave concerns about Australian Federal Police raids on journalists and the public broadcaster, saying the actions were "clearly designed to intimidate" public servants and media organisations.
