China massing military ships across region as tensions rise

Tokyo | China has reportedly deployed more than 100 naval and coast guard vessels across East Asian waters amid rising tensions, a record number that defence experts said was evidence of Beijing’s steady expansion of military power.

Reuters, citing multiple security officials in the region, reported this week that Chinese ships have massed in waters stretching from the southern part of the Yellow Sea through the East China Sea and down into the contested South China Sea, as well as into the Pacific.
