Tokyo | Australia’s ambassador to China says it is “deeply regrettable” that diplomats were not allowed access to the closed-door espionage trial of Australian journalist Cheng Lei who was detained in Beijing 19 months ago.

Graham Fletcher was stopped from entering the court building where uniformed police and plainclothes security officers were stationed as journalists gathered outside.
