Stokes is half-right about mental health and workers’ comp rorts

Disability insurers do not need government intervention. They need to change products for new customers that tighten eligibility for claims and offer responsible incentives.

Ryan Stokes has joined governments and insurers who have identified the economic unsustainability of medicalising social distress through insurance.

All have taken aim at remedies to deal with an artificial social epidemic that is affecting the cost of living, business efficiency, productivity and job security. Given the magnitude of the consequences, it is striking that neither governments nor insurers have seriously examined their own contributions to this unfolding crisis.
