Social cohesion hits record lows, support for immigration slumps

Social cohesion and happiness have fallen to the lowest levels on record with cost of living, interest rates and concern over migration making Australians anxious, divided and miserable, according to two long-running studies.

The results suggest similar concerns which gave rise to a shift towards right-wing and nationalist parties in this year’s European Union parliamentary elections and the re-election of Donald Trump in the United States.
