Gig economy covers 7pc of workforce

The proportion of workers using the gig economy has increased dramatically and many see it as essential for meeting basic needs, a landmark study has found.
The survey of 14,000 people commissioned by the Victorian Labor government found more than 7 per cent of workers are working on digital platforms, or have done so in the past 12 months, and earn average rates of $32 an hour.
