CFMEU break-up overdue
The real source of John Sekta and other union bosses’ political power remains the institutional privileges unions are granted by Australia’s archaic industrial relations framework.
It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so serious. Industrial Relations Minister Tony Burke says he has run out of patience with the thuggery of John Setka, Victorian secretary of the CFMEU.
Mr Burke says Mr Setka’s personal vendetta and bullying of the AFL to sack umpiring boss and former head of the Australian Building and Construction Commission Stephen McBurney has motivated his decision to fast-track legislation to break up the CFMEU.
