The AMP board is facing a testing time as the shareholders and the market seek stability following the surprise resignation of chairman Simon McKeon, who departs after only two years as chair after the company's annual general meeting on May 12. McKeon's exit, citing "changed circumstances", will bring to three the number of departure who have left AMP since December.

The chairman's mysterious departure, combined with the churn on the board, can create perceptions of governance issues, some experts say.
