Let's call it the Alan Joyce effect. The trend of chief executives speaking out on social issues that go beyond their immediate business interests is starting to benefit their public standing.

The Australian public has become more trusting of chief executives because they have been taking a public stance on societal issues that they care about, according to the Edelman Trust Barometer 2018 to be released in Australia on Wednesday found.
