Would-be directors of an ASX 200 company who are contemplating a board seat on a government or not-for-profit board as a stepping stone should think again.

The  most assured path to landing one of the 1490 board positions on an ASX 200 company is to have experience running a company or large division with financial responsibility, a survey by professional service firm EY and the 30% Club, which campaigns for more women on boards, finds.
