Vaile resigns as Newcastle Uni chancellor before he even begins
Mark Vaile’s appointment as the next chancellor of Newcastle University has ended before it even began. The chairman of Whitehaven Coal resigned from the position on Monday afternoon following rising anger, protests and resignations from the university council.
His decision came just two weeks after the appointment was announced and three days after current chancellor Paul Jeans issued a statement to staff defending the position.
