Businesswoman and university chancellor Catherine Livingstone says Australia needs a “meeting of minds” to define the role and purpose of universities, after which the fractious issue of funding can be debated.

The Australian Financial Review Higher Education Summit heard that COVID-19 had laid bare the “distorted” funding model whereby universities had become over-reliant on foreign student income.
