O’Neil alters ministerial sign-off for postgraduate students
A new law that would require the home affairs minister to personally approve any change in course for individual postgraduate students from overseas studying in cutting-edge areas such as biofuels, advanced robotics, big data, artificial intelligence and vaccine development has been put on the backburner by the Albanese government.
Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil said no student would be affected by the legislation to create a single visa condition until the list of critical technologies was more clearly defined.
