Consultants slash grad hiring by nearly half. But don’t blame AI

The number of graduates hired by the big four – Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC – has hit a five-year low. But it’s not due to the rapid advance in AI, at least not yet.

When Tiana Palandjian, 21, was in her second-last year of a commerce degree at the University of Sydney, she created a spreadsheet to track her next project.

Palandjian, an HSC honour roll student in business studies, sent out dozens of applications to intern at consulting and technology companies before landing five interviews, which eventually led to a summer internship and, a few months later, a graduate job at Deloitte in Sydney.
