What do we love? Banks and miners! Why do we love them? Not sure, really.

This year the banks and materials sectors, which account for about 60 per cent of the S&P/ASX 200 index by market capitalisation, did worse than the sharemarket as a whole. Banks was down 8 per cent; materials down 23 per cent. Consumer staples were also a bit of a disappointment, but energy was worst of all – down 34 per cent by December 9.
