Property investors prepare for REIT turnaround
The big end of town expects prices of listed trusts will start to recover once inflation looks to be under control and interest rates have plateaued.
Sam TamblynContributorWith listed Australian real estate investment trusts (A-REITs) having been hammered over the past 18 months, some property investors believe they have bottomed out and are preparing to get back into the sector.
The S&P/ASX 200 A-REIT index – which covers the top 24 trusts with a total capitalisation of more than $130 billion – peaked in December 2021 and hit its lows nine months later. The index has risen modestly this calendar year, but remains about 20 per cent below the peak.
