Treasure or tainted? Experts split on value of Roberts-Smith VC
Medal specialists are divided about the auction value of the Victoria Cross awarded to decorated soldier Ben Roberts-Smith because of his infamy after a court found he murdered four unarmed prisoners in Afghanistan.
Some numismatists, who study and collect coins and medals, claim Mr Roberts-Smith’s Victoria Cross is unrelated to the murders and should not affect its value, while others claim it is tainted and would reject an offer by him to conduct a sale.
