A vaccine should allow GDP in the US to exceed pre-pandemic readings by the end of next year but Australian growth won't be quite as strong.

The past year has been one for the history books. The global economy has been contorted by a painful pandemic, unprecedented gyrations in production and spending, and remarkable stresses on households and business around the world.

In response, global monetary and fiscal policies have set new standards for boldness in an effort to counter the shock and scientists – in just a few months’ time – appear to have successfully conjured up several effective vaccines.
