Last week, Tesla’s “We, Robot” event unveiled the much anticipated Cybercab – the company’s driverless robotaxi. The following day, Tesla’s stock dropped 9 per cent.

It would be overly simplistic to contend that Tesla’s announcement flopped or failed to meet the market’s expectations. However, it likely confirmed for Wall Street what those of us working in the mobility industry have known for a long time: while driverless vehicles will bring about a seismic shift in transportation, the change will happen slowly.
