Westpac’s $50,000 call centre clash lands bank in PR nightmare

The lending giant thought it had detected a scam. But a customer is adamant he was denied access to his money with no explanation. And he’s gone public.

How easy is it to invest $50,000 in cryptocurrencies, and take advantage of a market rebound to make an easy $6000? For one Westpac customer, close to impossible, after call centre staff intervened to shut down the transfer.

“We’re not going to be able to facilitate this payment if you’re not forthcoming and honest with us,” said the call centre agent, according to a recording first aired on 2GB Sydney’s Ben Fordham Live.
