US ‘Airbnb for cars’ service pulls up in Australia

Turo, a heavily backed US firm that lets you rent out your regular or luxury car to strangers, has hired a former Uber executive to drive Australian growth plans, ahead of a planned IPO.

The move comes after rideshare giant Uber acquired the best-known Aussie car-sharing app Car Next Door in January, and signals a major investment from the San Francisco-based firm, which also moved into the French market earlier this year by acquiring local player OuiCar.
