Uber cuts prices – but also pay rates for drivers

Uber is cutting its fares by up to 5 per cent next month, defying inflation but lowering driver pay rates in a major test for the government’s new gig economy pay laws.
The dominant ride-sharing company told drivers on Thursday that the way it calculated fares for its workers would change from August 7 to mostly be “lower than those currently used”.
