Telstra moves to overtake Optus in race to plug into Musk’s Starlink

Telstra is doubling down on its partnership with Elon Musk’s SpaceX, signing a new deal to let its customers in the bush send text messages via the billionaire’s Starlink satellite technology.

The telco announced on Thursday it was testing SpaceX’s satellite-to-mobile technology, which is designed to allow everyday mobile phones to communicate with “low earth orbit” (LEO) satellites. The emerging technology is designed to extend mobile service to remote locations which are beyond the reach of the existing networks.
