Study finds Google shot itself in the foot with threat to exit Australia
Google’s threat to block Australians from using its search engine if the government passes a proposed media bargaining code has only increased voter support for the proposed change, new data suggests.
A study of more than 1000 Australians conducted for The Australian Financial Review found more than a third said Google’s threat to shut down its Australian search engine made them more likely to support the new code. The laws would force Google and Facebook into binding arbitration if they cannot come to an agreement with Australia’s news media outfits over payments for their use of news content.
