Social media giants ‘no longer fear reputation risks’
Legislation that requires individual pieces of unlawful content be removed from social media platforms leaves Australia’s eSafety Commissioner to play “whack-a-mole” when violent footage spreads like wildfire online, experts argue.
Under the Online Safety Act, the internet watchdog has broad statutory powers to order social media companies to remove and block illegal online content, such as child sexual abuse material and pro-terror material.
