When the Windows software that powers 90 per cent of the world's PCs gets what promises to be its best upgrade in a decade starting from Wednesday, consumers are bound to embrace it.

Windows 10, which marks a dramatic shift in the way Microsoft approaches software development following the failure of 2012's Windows 8, is after all the first version of Windows Microsoft has ever given away free of charge to existing customers.
