When the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix roars to life in Melbourne this weekend, for the first time it will be an Australian company supplying the crucial car tracking and race strategy software on every team’s pit wall.

The RaceWatch software, which would be familiar to any viewers of Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive series as the screen just about every race official and pit crew member has their eyes glued to almost the entire race, is now owned by Melbourne’s Catapult, after the company acquired RaceWatch’s UK-based developer, SBG Sports Software, for $US40 million ($53.4 million) to $US45 million last year.
