Start-ups turn to crowdfunding in record numbers as VC dries up

Start-up founders embraced equity crowdfunding in record numbers in 2022 amid a tighter venture capital funding market, but even this early-stage funding segment was not immune to valuation pressure.

There was a 2 per cent increase in deals in 2022, compared to 2021, while capital raised remained flat at $71 million across 91 deals, according to this year’s CSF Yearbook, compiled by equity crowdfunding platform Birchal.
