Blackbird’s $10b return makes it Australia’s biggest VC

Sydney-based Blackbird ventures has opened its books to reveal itself as Australia’s biggest venture capital fund in terms of gains made on its early-stage investments, having turned $1.3 billion invested since 2013 into a portfolio valued at $10 billion.

Blackbird co-founders and partners Rick Baker and Niki Scevak said the firm had more than triple the equity in runaway tech success story Canva than any other investor, but had also built significant stakes by getting in early at other billion-dollar “unicorns” SafetyCulture and Culture Amp.
