Entrepreneur Michael Jankie had chosen to go with Telstra for the mobile contract for his Wi-Fi start-up PoweredLocal as a message to his staff that despite being a young business, it wouldn't "scrimp and save" on their most important tool – connectivity.

But his decision cost the business almost $15,000 on Tuesday.
