Ares launches private equity business in Australia, hires from Bain

Ares Management is already a big wheel in the local private credit scene. Now the $657 billion New York-listed alternatives giant is coming for private equity.

Street Talk can reveal Ares, led locally by former Credit Suisse country head John Knox, is digging deep to finance a private equity strategy focused on Australia and New Zealand. And it’s poached Bain Capital dealmaker, Nicholas Onie, to spearhead the push.
