The nation’s miners and manufacturers enter the new year building on their massive fortunes, while the country’s top tech entrepreneurs are nursing eye-watering losses.

The wealth of Australia’s richest people diverged over the past year, driven by a $16 billion wipeout in the collective fortunes of Atlassian founders Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar. While the tech duo’s wealth plunged from about $26 billion each to $17 billion apiece, the iron ore miners bulked up.
