In February, he resigned (in his later telling, was pushed out) from the board of Crown Resorts. Not that that helped him avoid appearances at the Perth Casino royal commission in July. By September, Poynton was once more in the headlines after revelations he’d given WA attorney-general John Quigley a helicopter ride to a Yallingup Christmas party, which Quigley decided not to declare.
