On Saturday, Anthony Albanese backflipped on the demise of the $750 pandemic leave disaster payment following criticism from the states. Who knew Dominic Perrottet, the sole remaining Liberal government in Australia (Tasmania doesn’t count), would be the one defending the welfare of casual workers?
It begs the question, what was Treasury doing all this time, given Labor had blamed the end of the COVID-19 payments program on the timetable instituted by the Morrison government?
