The Queen’s Birthday honours may have become King’s Birthday honours as Charles III took the throne, but they have not become any less of a love-in for Australia’s political and business inner sanctums.

But even Labor Party stalwarts like Anthony Albanese should have realised granting former Victorian premier Daniel Andrews the country’s top honour of Companion of the Order of Australia just months after he resigned would spark immediate pushback.
