This column has always shied away from engaging in that latter-day artefact of journalism that is last night’s Q&A (for all of its disparagement of the program, even The Australian regularly succumbs to the cheap clicks of a Tuesday wrap). But we cannot resist an aside on Tony Blair’s former spin doctor Alastair Campbell’s risible conflation of Donald Trump with Adolf Hitler.

“That thing he did the other day with the four congresswomen of colour,” Campbell began. “Hitler was doing that stuff. I’m not saying [Trump is] going to go out and kill six million people. I’m saying the seeds of fascism are being sown.”
