A fortnight ago, this column revealed Gina Rinehart’s distaste for a portrait of herself hanging in the Vincent Namatjira exhibition in the National Gallery of Australia, which drove her acolytes to urge its removal.
It’s dead obvious in hindsight, but we did say the Streisand effect would ensure the portrait would be elevated to a position of prominence unimaginable if Rinehart had stayed shtum. It’s gone viral and even popped up on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and from there to the American masses.
