Britain's Vestey family will sever its links with the Northern Territory cattle industry on Wednesday when its holding company, Union International, puts the last of its nine cattle stations up for auction in Brisbane.

Union is seeking to cut debt as part of a loan restructure with its bankers, and has reduced its borrowings of Pound 400 million ($A1 billion) to Pound 350 million in the past six months.
