Renzo Piano says he’s about open spaces, not just towers

Genoa, Italy | Star architect Renzo Piano says he hopes One Sydney Harbour, which could be his final project in Australia, will be seen as a thriving public space and not just a luxury high-rise ghetto – despite the record-breaking price tag for the Barangaroo development’s penthouse.

The Pritzker prizewinner's comments come as the 834 apartments in Lendlease’s flagship three-tower residential project are selling for an average of $6.3 million and the three-level penthouse went for more than $140 million. Meanwhile, critics say the push to maximise profit from the site has come at the expense of public space.
